UNDER THE TRACK

This work is inspired by foosball. When playing foosball, people observe the game from a top-down, omniscient perspective, overseeing the entire layout. The small figures on the foosball table have highly restricted movement, limited in both direction and distance— a constraint imposed by the structure of the space itself.

The piece explores the relationship between space, people, and hierarchy. It presents an hierarchy system viewed from a god’s-eye perspective, where different social roles exist, yet all are confined within the spatial boundaries, restricted to predefined tracks of movement.

Cardboard is heavily used in this work as a metaphor for controlled space. As a material, cardboard is mass-produced, easily repurposed, and frequently redefined through printed logos or labels, assigning it new meanings dictated by companies or institutions. In this context, it serves as a metaphor for a space that is easily produced, manipulated, and redefined. Within this system, every figure is trapped in a predetermined space, bound to move only within its designated path.
