Zheng Fang (b. 2000, Qingdao, China), currently based in London, is an interactive sculpture in which people feel the hierarchy of urban space. As someone who grew up in a city, I have witnessed the changes in my home city. New skyscrapers appear in the city, while old buildings are slowly disappearing. Occasionally, you will find high-rise buildings all around you when you look up. Gradually, people also developed a strong desire for high-rise buildings, as they gradually became a symbol of success, representing not only urban and economic development but also a condescending stance. In Zheng's practice, he uses the skyscraper as a metaphor for power in contemporary urban space. He reacts to his feelings in modern urban space through game, confrontation, and reward designs.

Zheng also creates works about urban space that respond to the antagonistic relationship between different classes. There are usually two factions in his work. In designing, he enhances the visual and functional contrasts between the two factions, such as other materials, sizes, shapes, and functions. In this way, it enhances the confrontation between different classes and the imbalanced spatial relationship in the urban space.

The Meaning of LOGO

The logo is inspired by a tool for measuring dimensions, which is usually more common in modelling software such as CAD or Rhino. I saw the visual effect of this tool as a fixation and control of space or a specification of space. I then redesigned this visual effect into a logo element - an inward contraction of spatial control.
